(ECNS) -- The first unit of the Yangqu Hydropower Station, China's first concrete-face rock-fill dam on the Yellow River, was connected to the electricity grid in northwest China's Qinghai Province on Friday after a 72-hour test run.
Located at the junction of Xinghai County and Guinan County in the Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, the Yangqu station has a total reservoir capacity of 1.639 billion cubic meters.
The power station is equipped with three 400 megawatts mixed-flow turbine generator units, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. It will generate some 4.732 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which can meet the electricity demands of approximately 1,577,300 households with an annual consumption of 3,000 kilowatt-hours.
Construction of the Yangqu Hydropower Station on the Yellow River began on Dec. 26, 2021, providing practical experience for building 300-meter-high concrete-face rock-fill dam in China.
